Quantitative Methods: Statistics II

Requirements for mid-term test

Students are expected to prepare (individually) an analysis on any business-related field. Preferably, students choose one of the NACE2 economic activities and prepare an overview of entrepreneurship in respective economic activity. It is expected that students develop the same research topic at final assignment (research paper).

Students should use official sources of statistics (EUROSTAT, CSB, etc.) as well as other reliable data sources.

Students are expected to use following business analysis and forecasting techniques and methods:

• Time series analysis (absolute growth, growth rate, increment rate, average level, average absolute growth, average growth rate, average increment rate);

• Linear and nonlinear trend (equation and determination coefficient);

• Moving average (with k=3, k=4, k=5);

Students are expected to do calculations in MS Excel and visualise data using several chart options. Students need to provide explanations and interpretations of the calculations and visualisations using academic language.

The recommended length of the analysis: 2-4 pages.

Students are expected to do all necessary calculations during the lessons on 6 January 2021 and upload following documentation package by 14:00 on Student Portal:

• analysis (.doc or .pdf);

• calculations (.xlsx).
